Yesterday was something I never thought I would witness in 24 years of my life. I saw one of the biggest disasters before my eyes on national television. As soon as storm Ondoy released it’s wrath upon us, floods started to appear.
The next thing I knew, Marikina, Cainta and other places in Metro Manila are in a state of calamity. Floods rising up submerging houses and cars under water. Getting disconnected from friends who lived in Marikina, lower Antipolo and Cainta. Fearing for the lives of my loved ones who are out there.
Until now, I cannot contact my best friend who is living in Masinag, Lower Antipolo. Until now I have no idea what happened to my friends Ice, John and Eco. Until now, I fear for their safety only hoping for the best. Until now, my mind is not at peace knowing that they maybe in danger. I could only pray to God that they are safe and sound and with their family. I could only hope for the best.
As I cry to my mom on the phone, bawling all my worries over them, this is the time where I know I am willing to do anything just to get a hear from them.
I am not alone. There are others out there who is worrying over their love ones. You are not alone. We are all in this together. Let’s pray for those who are still stranded and missing. Let us also pray for those who have perished because of the floods. Let’s pray for our country who is facing one of the biggest trials of year 2009.
Let this be a lesson for us Filipinos. It’s time for us to learn.
Nature has it’s way of getting pay back for our sins. Learn.
